Bio
Consisting of musicians with writing and producing skills that defy their tender age, the Peet Project plays a dynamic blend of jazz, pop and funk. The driving force in the group is violinist / composer / producer Peter "Peet" Ferencz who shapes the band’s sound by using the violin as a lead instrument in an equivalent role to saxophones or keyboards.
Peter started out his musical studies at the age of 4 learning classical violin. Despite his success as a player, he soon realized that classical music was not his home turf. Learning tunes by the ear was always easier for him than learning by reading and he preferred improvisation to adherence to sheet music. At 13, he began to stray from classical music and played for pop groups as well which not only broadened his musical horizon but also raised his interest in composing, recording and mixing. "When I was 15, I began to write and record hip-hop, r&b, house and pop songs in a small home studio. I used the rest of my free time to learn to play the guitar and the piano. Over the years, the people who requested my writing and producing services were better and better and increasingly popular, so I did my best to come up with as good materials I possibly could." At high school, Peter found a musical partner to team up with, talented keyboarder Ádám Lőrincz. Sharing the same musical taste, the two of them began to write their own music which received a warm welcome from their friends. Encouraged by this initial success, they put together a series of tracks, of which Pink Spirit made it to the finals of the 2008 song contest of Budapest-based smooth-jazz/lounge radio station 90.9 Jazzy. In 2009 they started working on their first album, but Adams participation was soon limited to live concerts due to time constraints. So Péter continued to write songs with young but seasoned saxophone player Marci Mits who already boasted impressive playing and recording credits on the Hungarian music scene. (Marci also teaches improvisation and music practice at a music college in West Hungary).
Created under the new band name Peet Project, their first joint effort is a powerful instrumental jazz-funk track titled Be Free which took a flying start: It won the grand prize of 90.9 Jazzy radio’s 2009 song contest and has been approved for heavy rotation immediately. The song is on the band’s first EP, Pink Spirit, released on January 26, 2010, serving as a perfect companion to a string of smooth jazz tunes.
