Sándor Sasvári

A warm, mellow voice over smooth, upbeat grooves.

Bio

Sándor Sasvári founded his first band at the tender age of eight and he was just ten when he began writing songs with his sister. After extensive woodshedding as a self-taught guitar player, he attended classical guitar lessons for eight years and spent school breaks playing Beatles songs on the piano, thus shaping his musical taste under a wide range of influences. His favorites at the time were Chicago, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Chick Corea, Santana and Deep Purple.

Sándor played guitars and bass in a number of bands until 1982, when out of sheer curiosity, he auditioned as a prospective singer and actor for the Rock Theatre, a theatre company in Budapest which was established just then and soon became very popular by staging world-renowned musicals. The successful audition gave a boost to Sándor’s career, especially when he got the title role and delivered an excellent performance in the Hungarian premiere of Jesus Christ Superstar in 1986.

His success in Jesus Christ Superstar was followed by a number of appearances in musical theatres throughout Europe. He played Jean Valjean in Les Miserables, Che in Evita, John in Miss Saigon. He toured extensively with the Rock Theatre in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, principally with the musical Evita. Moving westbound, Sándor also appeared as Basil Hallward in the musical version of Oscar Wilde’s Dorian Gray in London. He was a guest artist at the Musical Theatre in Duisburg, Germany for two years, playing Jean Valjean in Les Miserables. Since his return to Hungary a couple of years ago, Sándor has played the Phantom at a prestigious Budapest theatre in Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera.

While being a highly successful musical actor, Sándor has also remained an active musician and keeps practicing to this day in his home studio. He is also an avid horse riding buff and regularly participates in riding competitions. Sándor lives with his wife and two daughters on a small estate just outside Budapest.
